Without a doubt, one of the most mature (meaning stable because it’s been through several iterations) Mac compatible poker platforms available. I’ve been a member of Full Tilt Poker since 2005 and was one of the very first users on their Mac client and I can honestly say I have virtually no complaints. From the very first Beta client for Macs to today, there’s been very bumps in the road on the way to a seamless online poker experience using this application.
From the initial login to the Lobby to the actual poker tables, the look and feel of the Mac poker client is actually superior to their PC counterparts. Normally, this is the opposite as the .dmg poker download clients are mere afterthoughts the majority of the time. Not with the FTP client, these guys have really gone out of their way to embrace the Mac owners community.
If you’re looking to try it out, you can sign up for a free account and test drive it yourself.

I’d had enough, trying to find the best Mac compatible poker sites that actually offer a .dmg download option was like trying to find a virgin on the set of Jersey Shore. Trying to stay true to my Mac laptop roots and not have to switch to my PC every time I wanted to play online poker was proving to be a challenge. So before I finish my story, let me back up a few years -
Back in 2006-2007, I received a Macbook as a birthday gift. I was never a flag waving Mac fanatic nor did I really care about the whole Mac vs. PC debate. But once I opened that box and turned my new present it was love at first sight. The almost instant on, the fact that it has never to this day crashed, and the fact that people tend to look and admire it when I’m using it in public – yeah, I’m a Mac guy now.
So imagine my surprise when I tried to load up a Mac download version of PokerStars- nope. How about Full Tilt Poker – nope. I started emailing and Googling to find out who, if anyone, offered such as thing. Luckily, my timing was near perfect because Tom at Full Tilt Poker told me that the Mac beta version of their software was coming in a few months. Cool, I thought – I’ve gotta try this.
Try it I did and I have to admit, it was a very nice application. When I learned that the founders of Full Tilt were also Mac owners, I then understood why so much effort had gone into this. It wasn’t a rushed re-hash or port of their PC version to a Mac compatible platform, it was a complete re-write to work properly on an Apple machine. I still play it to this day (2010).
Since my early experience back a few years ago, several other poker sites have followed suit and now offer a “real” Mac Download Poker option on their sites. If you’re still reading this I’m guessing you’re in the same boat I was a few years ago and you’re most likely searching Google for “Mac Download Poker” or some variant of the term. If you landed here that way and you’re now trying to sort out which of them suck and which don’t suck, you’re in the right place. Over the next few weeks I’m going to blog about my personal experiences at each poker room that has created a .dmg poker client. Some have worked great, others not so great. I’ll also talk a little about the sites that offer Flash and web based versions of their poker clients (although I highly recommend finding a download version if you play for real money!).
In the meantime, good luck at the tables.
